My Scariest Stencil
What do you do when you're intimidated by a craft supply in your stash? I've had this stencil for a while. I love all the shapes, and the potential for creating geometric, layered designs, but I just didn't know where to start. So I went to the source, the designer, and basically copied one of the ways she used it.
I made a simple, colorful inkblended background, and then layered the stencil over top and blended black through. Then I flipped the stencil and blended white acrylic paint through
Here's what I learned (ie ideas for the future).
1) that color-cube inspired background could stand on its own
2) spritzing with shimmer spray really dulled the background colours - it's pretty, but brighter would be pretty too!
3) I could have used a second coat of black ink blending for more definition and contrast
4) I could have flipped AND flopped the stencil to get more variation in the final pattern
5) I could have used my gel plate to get a more opaque layer of white.
6) this stencil is not that scary after all!
Having said all that, I'm pretty happy with how they turned out, and I was able to trim the 8.5x11 panel down to create 6 card fronts.
